Abstract:

Anemia during pregnancy is a global public health problem affecting the health of pregnant women and fetuses, which can have serious consequences such as complications and increased comorbidities in pregnant women. In recent years, there has been a significant decrease in the prevalence of anemia during pregnancy in the different regions of China and the gap between the prevalence in China and developed countries has gradually narrowed. However, the trend still shows that the prevalence is higher in underdeveloped areas and needs urgent improvement. The etiological classification of anemia during pregnancy is complex. The causes of anemia can be categorized as acquired or hereditary, and major risk factors may include the presence of acute or chronic comorbidities, as well as nutritional factors. This paper reviews the latest epidemiological research about anemia during pregnancy and analyzes the geographical distribution, etiological classification, and risk factors of anemia during pregnancy in China and abroad. We aim to raise health awareness and provide a theoretical basis for the effective prevention of anemia during pregnancy.
